- Scope
- This standard specifies two methods for evaluating the melting behavior of partially crystalline polymers. The melting temperatures determined by different methods often differ by a few degrees, as explained in the introduction. Method A: Capillary method This method is a melting temperature measurement method based on polymer deformation and is applicable to all partially crystalline polymers and their mixtures. Note 1: Method A can also be used to evaluate the softening behavior of amorphous solids. Method B: Polarized light microscopy method. This method is a melting temperature measurement method based on changes in the optical properties of polymers. It is suitable for the melting temperature measurement of polymers containing birefringent crystalline phases. It is not suitable for adding pigments that will interfere with birefringence. Determination of the melting temperature of the polymer crystalline region of the polymer and/or additives. Note 2: Another method suitable for partially crystalline polymers can be found in the standard: GB/T 19466.3-2004 (Plastics Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) Method Part 3: Melting or Crystallization Temperature and Enthalpy Determination} (ISO 11357-3:1999, IDT).
