Scope
This standard specifies methods for laboratory measurement of airborne sound insulation performance of architectural components such as walls, floors, doors, windows, peripheral wall members, and external walls. Excludes items classified as small building parts (measurement method stipulated in ISO 140-10:1991). Using the results measured according to this standard, it is possible to design building components with appropriate acoustic performance, and to compare and classify the performance of building components based on their sound insulation performance. Measurements are made using laboratory test equipment with side channel propagation as small as possible. Therefore, results measured according to this standard must not be applied to actual buildings without taking into account other factors that affect sound insulation performance, such as side channel propagation and loss factors.
