Scope
1. Overview This standard applies to the interconnection of data terminal equipment (DTE) and data circuit terminating equipment (DCE) using serial binary data exchange, which defines: Chapter 2 Electrical signal characteristics: Interchange signals and related circuits electrical and ground signal characteristics. Chapter 3 Mechanical Characteristics of the Interface: Definition of the mechanical characteristics of the interface between DTE and DCE. Chapter 4 Functional description of interchange circuits: Functional description of a set of data, timing and control interchange circuits for the digital interface between DTE and DCE. Chapter 5 Standard Interfaces for Selected Communication System Configurations: Defines a standard subset of specific interchange circuits for use in a specific set of data communication system applications. In addition, this standard also includes: Chapter 6 Recommendations and Explanatory Notes Chapter 7 Terminology 2. Interface Configuration This standard contains thirteen specific interface configurations to meet the needs of fifteen specified system applications. These configurations are identified by type with the letters A through M. In addition, type Z is reserved for identification of configurations not included in type A to type M, and the supplier specifies the interchangeable circuit configuration for each application in detail. 3. Data signal rate This standard applies to the nominal data signal rate from 0 to 20 000bit/s. 4. Signal common This standard applies to the exchange of data, timing and control signals when used with electronic equipment, each equipment Each has a separate common return (signal common) that can be interconnected at the interface point. This standard does not apply to the situation where the equipment on both sides of the interface point requires mutual electrical insulation. 5. Synchronous/asynchronous communication This standard applies to synchronous and asynchronous serial binary data communication systems. 6. Service categories This standard applies to various types of data communication services. Including: 6.1 Private line or leased line service, second or fourth line. And consider point-to-point or multi-point operations. 6.2 Switching Services, Second or Fourth Line. The automatic answering of calls is considered, but this standard does not include all the switching circuits required to automatically generate a connection using GB 11015. 7. Distribution of functions The DCE may include converters for sending and receiving signals as well as control functions. Other functions, such as pulse regeneration, error control, etc. may or may not be provided. The equipment providing these additional functions may be contained within the data terminal equipment or within the data circuit terminating equipment, or may be inserted as a separate device between the two. 7.1 When such additional functions are provided in DTE or DCE, this interface standard shall apply to interchange circuits between these two types of equipment. 7.2 When additional functions are provided by an independent unit inserted between DTE and DCE, this standard applies to both sides of this independent unit (interface with DTE and interface with DCE, see 3.3.3 and 3.4.2). 8. Working methods This standard applies to all working methods described in the system configuration shown in Chapter 5 "Standard Interfaces for Selected Communication System Configurations".
