This International Standard gives definitions of terms relating to powder metallurgy. Powder metallurgy is the branch of metallurgy which relates to the manu-facture of metallic powders, or of articles made from such powders with or without the addition of non-metallic powders, by the application of forming and sintering processes.
The terms are classified under the following main headings:
1 Powders
2 Forming
3 Sintering
4 Post-sintering treatments
5 Powder metallurgy materials
An alphabetical index of the terms defined is also given.
NOTE 1 In addition to terms and definitions used in Eng-lish and French, two of the official ISO languages, this Inter-national Standard gives the equivalent terms and definitions in the German language; these are published under the re-sponsibility of the member body for Germany (DIN). How-ever, only the terms and definitions given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms and definitions.
NOTE 2 Additional information on certain of the terms de-fined can be found in the standards given in parentheses at the end of certain definitions. These are listed in the Bibliog-raphy.
note: 1) In English, the abbreviations PM and P/M are often used for powder metallurgy, as in "PM part", "P/M prod-uct", "PM process".
