This standard specifies methods for measuring phenol indicators (3.2) in surface waters and wastewater. After the distillation process, the test sample shall be analyzed according to the following method. Method A (direct spectrophotometry): This method uses phenol as a standard and allows the determination of phenol indicators in samples containing more than 0.10 mg/l in the aqueous phase (without chloroform extraction). Method B (Chloroform extraction method): This method uses phenol as a standard and can measure a phenol index of 0.002 to 0.10 mg/l when the sample is extracted and concentrated with chloroform after color development.
