This standard specifies methods for measuring viscosity numbers of dilute polyamide solutions in several specific solvents. This method is applicable to the polyamides PA 6, PA 66, PA 69, PA 610, PA 612, PA 11, PA 12 and PA MXD6 as defined in ISO 1874-1, and is also applicable to polyamides that are soluble in a specific solvent under specific conditions. The same applies to possible copolyamides and other polyamides. This method is not applicable to polyamides produced by anionic polymerization of lactams or polyamides produced using crosslinking agents. These polyamides are usually insoluble in certain solvents. The viscosity number is measured using the general method specified in ISO 1628-1, using the specific conditions specified in this standard. Viscosity number measurements of this polyamide give the relative molecular weight of the polymer.
