Scope
This British Standard provides minimum recommendations for safety in the design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of fixed powered lifting platforms with either a partially or fully enclosed platform. The lifting platforms covered by this code of practice are for use by persons with impaired mobility, whether sitting, standing, or within a wheelchair, and accompanied by an attendant, if necessary, for transportation between fixed levels, and in which the maximum height of the platform above the lowest level does not exceed the following: a) without liftway enclosure or floor penetration: 1) 2.0 m in public buildings; 2) 4.0 m in private dwellings; or b) with a liftway enclosure: 4.0 m. This code of practice also provides some recommendations for consideration by purchasers (see 5.4 and 8.4 and annex A).
