This standard specifies steel slag (hereinafter referred to as steel slag) used in road subgrades and heated asphalt mixtures. Notes: 1. Steel slag includes blast furnace slag, which is generated during the pig iron manufacturing process, and cracked steel slag, which is generated during the steel manufacturing process. Blast furnace slag differs in cooling method. It is divided into slowly cooled blast furnace slag and granulated blast furnace slag. Steelmaking slag is divided into converter slag and electric furnace slag, depending on the steel manufacturing method. 2. Steel slag used for roads includes those made from blast furnace slag and steelmaking slag, which are made into roadbed materials either singly or in combination, and those made from steelmaking slag, which are made from heated asphalt mixtures and bitumen. Some are manufactured as aggregates used for stabilization treatment (heat mixing).
