Scope
This standard specifies the method for determination of bromine and (or) chlorine content in raw rubber, rubber compound or vulcanized rubber. This standard applies to natural rubber and the following synthetic rubbers: isoprene rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, chlorinated rubber, butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, ethylene-propylene rubber, neoprene rubber and chlorine ether rubber. Iodine interferes with the assay. Bromine and chlorine in additives will also be detected by this method if they are not previously removed by extraction. When chlorine and bromine exist alone, potentiometric titration can accurately measure 6 μg of bromine and 3 μg of chlorine. When chlorine and bromine exist together, the lower limit is 60 μg of bromine and 30 μg of chlorine. These limits are determined by the potentiometric titrator. sensitivity.
