- This standard specifies the viscosity classification of transaxle and manual transmission lubricants. This standard applies to equipment manufacturers defining and recommending lubricants for drive axles and manual transmissions; oil producers and sellers to mark the viscosity grades of their products; users to select appropriate products according to their product instructions. The viscosity classifications of transaxle and manual transmission lubricants in Table 1 represent only the viscosity characteristics of such lubricants and do not include changes in viscosity during use or other properties of gear lubricants.
