Scope
This standard specifies the method for calculating the viscosity index of lubricating oil and related substances from the kinematic viscosities at 40°C and 100°C. Method A - applies to petroleum products with a viscosity index less than 100 and equal to 100. Method B - applies to petroleum products with a viscosity index greater than and equal to 100. Table 1 of this standard is applicable to petroleum products with a kinematic viscosity of 2 to 70mm2/S at 100°C. For petroleum products with a kinematic viscosity greater than 70mm2/S at 100°C, the viscosity index can be calculated according to the formula . The kinematic viscosity of distilled water at 20°C is 1.0088mm2/S as the reference value for measuring kinematic viscosity. The determination of kinematic viscosity of petroleum products shall be carried out according to GB/T 265.
