This standard specifies the method for determining dissolved calcium and magnesium by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. This standard is intended for the analysis of raw water and is applicable to water samples with calcium up to 50 mg/l and magnesium up to 5 mg/l. For samples containing higher concentrations of calcium and magnesium, smaller amounts of sample should be submitted for analysis. Using an acetylene-air frame and a dilution factor of 10 times as described in 6.1, the optimal quantification range is 3-50 mg/l for calcium and 0.9-5 mg/l for magnesium.
