1.1 This standard specifies two test methods for determining the density of vulcanized rubber. Such measurements are important for quality control of compounded rubber and for calculating the mass of rubber required to produce a given volume of vulcanized rubber. 1.2 This standard does not apply to the measurement of the relative density of rubber, expressed as the ratio of the mass of a volume of rubber to the mass of the same volume of pure water at a given temperature. 1.3 In this standard, density is determined by measuring gravity under various conditions, but for convenience gravity is expressed in units of mass.
