- This standard specifies the free field calibration method for determining the random incidence sensitivity level of sound level meters and the diffuse field calibration method for determining the diffuse field sensitivity level. The purpose of this standard is to make diffuse field sensitivity levels interchangeable with random incidence sensitivity levels. The choice of calibration method depends on the test conditions. The results of calibration according to this standard depend on the parts of the sound level meter that are exposed to the sound field. This standard applies to general-purpose sound level meters, integrating average sound level meters or any other sound measurement system.
