Scope
This standard specifies the cold atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for the determination of total mercury in soil. The standard detection limit varies depending on the instrument model, and the minimum detection limit of this method is 0.005mg/kg (calculated by weighing 2g sample). Volatile organic compounds and water vapor absorb at 253.7nm and cause interference. Volatile organic matter can be removed during sample digestion, and water vapor can be removed with anhydrous calcium chloride and magnesium perchlorate.
