Scope
This standard specifies the characteristics of 120 mm optical discs called CD-ROMs used for information exchange between information processing systems and for information storage. The optical disc referred to in this standard is a type of optical disc in which information has been recorded on the disc and is read-only before delivery to the user. This standard specifies the following: -- certain definitions, the environment required for the testing of optical discs and the environment required for use and storage; -- the mechanical, physical and dimensional characteristics of optical discs; -- the format, error detection and correction of recording characteristics Coding of wrong characters and information; --Optical characteristics of information readout. These characteristics are specified for tracks recording digital data. According to this standard, an optical disc may also have one or more tracks recorded with digital audio data, which are recorded in accordance with the provisions of IEC 908.
