The document is used in earthworks and foundation engineering and road construction. The purpose of the proctor test is to determine the dry density of soil as a function of the water content after compaction under specified testing conditions. The test serves to estimate the soil density that can be achieved on the construction site and gives a reference value for the assessment of the existing soil density or the soil density achieved on the construction site. The test results also show the water content at which soil can best be compacted in order to obtain a particular dry density.
