- According to their definition, reference materials are used for a wide variety of measurement roles in connection with the calibration of measuring equipment, the evaluation of measurement methods, and the determination of property values. The purpose of Chapter 3 is to discuss these various roles in measurement, to show how traceability of measurements can be ensured through the use of reference materials, and to further explore global compatibility in measurements. The aim is to achieve compatibility.
