- This standard specifies the basic principles of industrial furnace insulation design, structure selection, calculation of insulation layer thickness, material selection, construction and acceptance. This standard applies to industrial furnaces and kilns used in processes such as melting, heating, heat treatment, sintering, and firing. This standard does not apply to furnaces or parts with special requirements for linings such as metal smelting, ships, nuclear energy, and boilers.
