Scope
This standard specifies an azeotropic distillation method for the determination of the water content of surfactants and soaps. Volatile substances soluble in water but not soluble in xylene or petroleum were included in the result. This standard applies to powder, paste and liquid products with a water content greater than 5% (m/m). This standard does not apply to products containing water-soluble volatiles, such as products containing ethanol. For soaps, since the results cannot be obtained with an accuracy higher than 0,3 %, this standard applies only to soaps containing appreciable amounts of volatiles which are insoluble in water. This method is also recommended for soaps made from linseed oil or other drying oils, and certain soaps such as those containing sodium silicate. This method is applicable only when the product is indicated by azeotropic distillation in a specific standard.
