Scope
?This standard is no longer an American National Standard or an ASME-approved standard. It is available for historical reference only.? The purpose of this Code is to establish rules for conducting tests of displacement compressors, vacuum pumps and blowers to determine the following: (a) Capacity in relation to speed, inlet pressure, and discharge pressure. (b) Power consumption in relation to speed, capacity, inlet pressure, and intercooling. In addition, the Code provides rules for adjusting the test results to reconcile them with specified operating conditions. This Code applies to the testing of compressor units when operated under conditions which permit discharging the gas compressed into the atmosphere or into pipe lines or receivers in which the pressure may be maintained essentially uniform and free from pulsations. It is intended to cover the compressor only, and is applicable only when the unit is operated without inlet pipe or duct, or when the magnitude and the over-all effect of pressure waves within an inlet duct fall within limits specified in this code. Because of pulsating flow conditions inherent in displacement compressors, uniformly accurate methods of tests are not available under all operating conditions. The Code specifically requires the parties to the test to choose from alternate methods described in this Code for conducting such tests.
