- 1.1.1 This Standard contains the complete generaland dimensional requirements for Metric Series HexagonSocket Button Head Cap Screws of nominal sizesfrom 3 mm to 16 mm recognized as an American NationalStandard. Also included are appendices coveringformulas for dimensions, part numbering system andpreferred sues for government use, and thread dimensions.The application of these screws is limited by theirdesign as denoted below.This product is designed and recommended for applicationswhere a lower head projle than that of thenormal socket head cap screw (ASMEIAhW B18.3.1M)is required to prevent interference. Wrenchability issigngcantly reduced due to the smaller sockets andshallower key engagements and, because of the headconjguration, the property class 12.9 tensile loads willnot be met. It may be necessary to assemble this productusing a nut to develop the full clamping capability.1 .I .2 The inclusion of dimensional data in this Standardis not intended to imply that all of the productsdescribed are st?ck production sizes.
