Scope
1.01 The object of the test shall be to determine various physical and chemical properties of dust. This Code provides procedures for determining these properties and defines the terminology to be used in stating these properties. 1.03 This Code excludes the methods to be employed in obtaining the samples of dust to be tested. It shall be assumed that the samples of gas borne from a duct shall be taken in accordance with the Test Code for Determining Dust Concentration in a Gas Stream (PTC 27-1957). It is recommended that samples should not be obtained from a large bulk of material in a hopper, silo, or from a similar location. If it is necessary to take samples from such a location due to the design of the particular unit being tested, the samples shall be taken by such procedures as will insure their being representative of the whole. In either case, the methods to be employed shall be defined in a written agreement between all parties to the test.
