Scope
This standard specifies the method for the determination of benzoic acid content in fruits, vegetables and their products. Spectrophotometry is suitable for the determination of benzoic acid content of less than 20mg/L or kg products. Molecular absorption spectrophotometry is suitable for the determination of products with a benzoic acid content exceeding 200 mg/L or kg, mainly including fruit juices, tomato sauce products, and products preserved with vinegar or lactic acid. Spectrophotometry is not suitable for products containing p-chlorobenzoic acid and large amounts of cinnamic acid.
