This document provides general recommendations for the application of ISO28000:2007 "Supply Chain Safety Management System Specification". This International Standard specifies requirements for a safety management system, including those aspects critical to supply chain safety assurance. These aspects include, but are not limited to, finance, manufacturing, information management, and the packaging, storage, and transfer of goods between different modes of transport and locations. Security management is linked to many other aspects of business management. These other aspects should be directly considered at any time or place that affects security management, including when supply chains are used to transport goods. This document is applicable to organizations of any size (from small to multinational) who wish to: a) establish, implement, maintain and improve a safety management system; b) ensure compliance with the specified safety management strategy; c) verify compliance with other requirements; d) seek certification or registration of its safety management system by an authorized third-party certification organization; e) make a statement regarding compliance with this International Standard Self-determination and declaration. Several regulations and regulatory norms also address certain requirements in this document. This document is not intended to require repeated verification of compliance. Organizations that opt for third-party certification further demonstrate their significant efforts to promote supply chain security.
