Scope
This standard specifies a method for measuring the foaming power of surfactants. This standard applies to all surfactants. Measuring the foaming power of easily hydrolyzed surfactant solutions, however, does not give reliable results because the hydrolyzate accumulates in the liquid film and affects the persistence of the foam. This standard does not apply to the measurement of the foaming power of very dilute surfactant solutions, such as river water containing surfactants. NOTE: The persistence of the liquid film is very sensitive to the presence of insoluble particles. For surfactant-based compositions, the solution is rarely complete, so special care should be taken when measuring foaming power by this method.
