Scope
ESDU 85028 extends the scope of ESDU 84031 to include bearings operating with superlaminar lubricant flow@ which can occur either at high speed or if a low viscosity lubricant is used. The conditions under which superlaminar flow is likely are defined. ESDU 84031 is used to select the lubricant viscosity grade@ bearing overall size and proportions@ groove dimensions@ and running clearance. Then ESDU 85028 provides a method of predicting the eccentricity ratio@ power loss@ lubricant flow rate@ bearing and lubricant temperatures and lubricant film thickness in superlaminar flow. A flowchart guides the user in the use of the method which is illustrated with practical worked examples.
