Purpose: This Aerospace Standard (AS) provides a means for establishing a uniform method for specifying ultrasonic transducer performance@ standardizing the measurement of transducer performance@ and controlling allowable tolerances of transducer performance for the level specified on a purchase order or in a procurement specification. This standard identifies and defines transducer performance parameters and the method for measuring each parameter. Application: Primarily for specifying transducer performance and acceptable tolerances for purchasing purposes@ acceptance (receiving) inspection to verity conformance to the purchase specification@ and for periodic review of in-service transducers to assure their continued performance within specified limits. Classification: Ultrasonic transducers defined herein are of two major categories@ immersion and contact transducers. Immersion transducers may be either focused or non-focused. Contact transducers may be straight-beam or angle-beam. All transducers@ regardless of category@ are available as tuned or unturned units. Primarily@ tuned transducers have narrower band-widths than unturned transducers. Two element or dual element transducers are not measurable by the methods specified herein and are not intended to be covered by this standard.
