This standard specifies the term definitions, sample preparation, equipment, test procedures, result processing and test report for the axial constant amplitude low cycle fatigue test of metallic materials. This standard is applicable to the low-cycle fatigue test of equal cross-section and funnel-shaped specimens of metal materials subjected to axial constant tension-compression stress or continuous change of strain, excluding tests of full-scale components and structural parts. This standard applies to tests at temperatures and strain rates where time-dependent inelastic strains are negligibly small compared to time-independent inelastic strains. The inelastic strains referred to here are all inelastic strains. This standard allows testing under environmental factors such as temperature, pressure, humidity, media, etc., but these factors should remain constant throughout the test. This standard can be used as a guide for low cycle fatigue testing in material development, mechanical design, process and quality control, product performance determination and failure analysis.
