ESDU 89048 gives graphs of stress concentration factors plotted against appropriate geometric parameters. The data are for circumferential grooves of U- and wide or narrow flat-bottomed section in solid shafts and for diametral holes in solid or hollow shafts@ with the shaft under axial loading@ tension or torsion@ and for fillets at stepped sections on solid or hollow shafts under axial loading or torsion. The data for the fillets and grooves have been extended to much lower radius/outside diameter ratios than those hitherto available by means of finite element analysis.
