Scope
WRC Bulletin 445 contains three reports on the results of projects on Plastic Pipe. Report 1; Bending Fatigue Tests on Polyvinylchloride (PVC) Pipe Joints by R. J. Scavuzzo@ M. Cakmak@ T. S. Srinivatsan and M. Cavak (The Universtiy of Akron). Report 1 is an extensive study of the bending fatigue of pressurized and unpressurized PVC Piping with and without solvent adhesive socket pipe joints. Report 2: On the Determination of Long-Term Hydrostatic Strength of Plastic Pipe by G. E. O. Widera and L. Zhao (Marquette University). Report 2 determines the stress-rupture characteristics of long term loading of HDPE pipe with an internal pressurized oil. Also determined in this report is the long term critical hydrostatic pressure of HDPE pipe subjected to an external pressurized oil. Report 3: Ratcheting and Fatigue Characteristics of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipe by R. J. Scavuzzo@ H. Chen@ P. Hu@ P. C. Lam and T. S. Srinivatsan (The University of Akron). Report 3 is an exploratory investigation on some bending fatigue characteristics of HDPE pipe and two types of HDPE pipe joints@ as well as pipe ratcheting. Fatigue and tensile strength characteristics of butt-welded fused joints fabricated from standard hot-plate method and electro-fused socket joint were evaluated. Strain-ratcheting measurements were made on two HDPE pipes pressurized at 160 psig rated pressure
