The intent of this chapter is to provide the refinery engineer with enough background information to acquaint him with basic acoustical terminology@ to allow him to perform simple measurements to determine problems related to existing in-plant and community criteria@ and to help him evaluate possible noise control treatments. Typical noise problems encountered in a refinery and corrective measures that can be undertaken to alleviate or to solve the noise problem for specific equipment are discussed.
