Scope

This document specifies metallographic methods for determining the microstructure of Ti(C,N)-based cemented carbides and WC/Co-based cemented carbides containing other cubic carbide phases using optical or electron microscopy. This document applies to sintered cemented carbide (sintered carbide cemented carbide or cermet), the main hard phase of such alloys are inorganic carbides and nitrides. This document also applies to tests for phase size and distribution using the intercept method.
