- This standard specifies the definitions of the physical layer, data link layer and application layer of communication between public area charging equipment and electric vehicles based on Controller Area Network (CAN). This standard applies to the communication protocol between off-board chargers of electric vehicles using conductive charging and BMS (or other vehicle control units with charging control functions). This specification does not require communication between electric vehicles with on-board chargers and charging equipment.
