Utilizing the difference in near-infrared light absorption characteristics caused by the vibration or rotation of chemical bonds such as hydrogen-containing groups in different molecules in crude oil, chemometric methods such as principal component regression, partial least squares, pattern recognition, and topology are used to establish crude oil spectra and crude oil properties. A linear or non-linear model can be used to determine the density, sulfur content, acid value and actual boiling point yield of crude oil samples at 20°C.
