Scope
This draft European Telecommunications Standard (ETS) addresses the requirements for directional antennas to be adopted in conjunction with new Point-to Point (P-P) systems and Point-to Multipoint (P-MP) systems limited to outstation applications only@ operating in frequency bands from 1 to 3 GHz (see ETS 300 630 [3] and ETS 300 636 [4]). In the case of a central station in a point-to multipoint system@ where omnidirectional and/or sector beam antennas could be adopted@ these antennas do not afford discrimination for co-ordination purpose. It is anticipated that in these instances@ local administrations/operators will use alternative (e.g. Geographical) methods of co-ordination. The application of these digital radio-relay systems is anticipated to be for point-to point and point-to-multipoint links in local@ regional and national networks@ mobile base station connections@ customer access links@ telemetering and telecontrol (including transportable and offshore use). There is a wide range of antennas suitable for use with these categories. Some typical examples are parabolic reflector@ horn@ short-backfire and yagi.
