Scope

This document describes the methodology for designing an interlaboratory study (ILS) and the calculations for estimating the precision of the test method used in this study. This document specifies the steps in the ILS program to determine the precision of the test method (Chapter 4), and the method for calculating the precision from the results of this study (Chapter 5 and 6). The procedures specified in this document are applicable to homogeneous petroleum and related products. The procedures specified in this document can be applied to other types of homogeneous products, and caution should be exercised when applying them to products whose homogeneity has yet to be demonstrated.
