These requirements cover oil burners intended for firing appliances and devices such as boilers; central@ floor@ wall@ and special furnaces; storage tank water@ air@ and direct-fired air heater units; and ovens. These burners are required to be equipped with automatic primary safety controls to restrict abnormal discharge of oil at the burner in case of ignition failure or flame failure. Requirements for the installation and use of oil-burning equipment are included in the National Fire Protection Association Standard for the Installation of Oil-Burning Equipment@ NFPA 31. These heaters are intended for installation in accordance with codes such as the BOCA National Mechanical Code@ the Standard Mechanical Code@ and the Uniform Mechanical Code.
