1.1 This specification covers alloy castings for high-strength service at elevated temperatures (Note I). These iron-, cobalt-, or nickel-base alloys contain chromium and other strengthening elements. Compositions are given in Table I. Selection will depend upon such considerations as design and service conditions (Note 2). NoTE 1-Ferritic and austenitic steel castings for high-temperature corrosion-resistance service are covered by: Specification A 2971A 297M, Specification A 351/A 351M, Specification A 743/A 743M and Specification A 744/A 144M. ' NoTE 2-The committee formulating these specifications has included 19 grades of materials extensively used for the present purpose. Since these grades possess varying degrees of suitability for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant service, it is the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade will be furnished with due consideration having been given by purchaser to the requirements of applicable construction codes, if any.
1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.
