Scope: This document specifies a rapid method for the determination of soil nitrification potential and nitrification inhibition by ammonia oxidation. This document is applicable to the determination of nitrification potential and nitrification inhibition of all soils containing nitrifying microbial populations. It can be used for rapid detection of soil quality and pollutant quality, and is also suitable for detection of farming methods, chemical substances [except volatile substances, namely H (Henry constant)>1], biosolids extracts and soil pollutants on soil nitrification.
