Scope
This procedure is intended to apply to all pumps down stream of engine inlet. The procedure will be defined in terms of recommended test setups and recommended testing methods. PURPOSE: This recommended practice defines procedures for testing aircraft fuel pumps for the purpose of comparing their resistance to deterioration@ during endurance test@ handling a specified mixture of gas and liquid expressed as a ratio of vapor volume to liquid volume. Method I procedure is based on the assumption that an acceptable V/L meter is available for use in conjunction with this test. The desired V/L can be determined by either of the two methods outlined herein: Method I@ V/L Meter; Method II@ Calculated V/L. The procedure recommended herein is based on experience gathered by a number of laboratories conducting component qualification tests to MIL-E-5009. It is intended to produce a uniform@ reproducible test condition as prescribed by paragraph 4.3.2.3.5 Fuel Pump Cavitaion@ of MIL-E-5009B. With modifications this procedure can be used for other engine specifications. The procedure recommended herein is intended to provide a test for the purpose of compliance with MIL-E-5009B within the scope of paragraph 1.2 above. This test in not intended to establish altitude or climb rate performance of the article tested.
