Scope

This standard specifies the Ringelmann telescope method for the determination of smoke blackness in exhaust gas from fixed pollution sources. This standard is applicable to the measurement of blackness at the discharge outlet of gray or black smoke emitted from stationary pollution sources, and is not applicable to the measurement of smoke of other colors.
