Scope

What is BS EN 993-1 about? BS EN 993 is a series on test method for dense shaped refractory products. BS EN 993-1 specifies a method for the determination of the bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity of dense shaped refractory products. From values and the true density of the material, determined by the method specified in EN 993‑2 , its bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity are determined by calculation. This test method could also be used for materials development, quality control, characterization, design and data generation purposes. BS EN 993-1 includes apparatus, geometry of test pieces, test piece preparation and verification, test procedure, and precision data for the bulk density and open porosity.
