This practical guideline provides instructions for sampling the deposition for radioactivity measurements and applies to the investigation of the total and wet deposition for radioactivity measurements. The practical guideline is an extension of and a supplement to NPR 6586 "Rainwater - Treatment of deposition samples" which describes the treatment of deposition samples, from sampling to analysis in general. A number of points deviate from the general guidelines in NPR 6586 specifically for radioactivity measurements. This practical guideline can only be used in combination with NPR 6586. After sample preparation in accordance with NVN 5626, the sample can be used for measuring the total (alpha -, beta or gamma) activity or for the determination of specific radionuclides (gamma spectrometry, radiochemical separation techniques). The method only provides information about the average activity per unit area in that part of the deposition collected with a sampling device.
