This standard contemplates the determination of the gloss of plastic films, both opaque and transparent. It contains three separate test procedures (see note 1). 1 60°, recommended for medium gloss films. 2 20°, recommended for high gloss films. 3 45°, recommended for low and intermediate gloss films. Note. The 60' and 20° mechanisms and measurement method duplicate those of ASTM D 523; those for the 45* procedure are similarly taken from ASTM C 346. For plastics in forms other than films, ASTM D S23 is recommended. This standard involves hazardous equipment, materials and operations.
