Chemical Environment
Polycarbonate plastic is a strong engineering thermoplastic used in applications
including the fabrication of sensitive electronic devices. In these applications close
contact may exist with many substances such as anti-static films, greases, O-rings,
detergents and other chemicals. These environments can cause crazing and
cracking and thus field failure of the polycarbonate part. Chernical compatibility
testing provides information on the extent to which chemical environments affect the
allowable working stress of polycarbonate thus establishing a method of limiting
end-use failures.
