PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this SAE recommended Practice is to provide a standard pattern or sequence for the manual control of automatic transmissions in passenger cars or light duty trucks. This recommendation pertains particularly to automatic transmissions of the hydrodynamic drive type. However@ it could serve equally well for other types@ such as mechanical@ electrical or hydrostatic. It is primarily applicable to passenger cars and light duty trucks; but if applicable@ it could be used on other vehicles.
