- This standard specifies the test requirements and methods for the ability of batteries to start diesel engines for diesel locomotives. This standard applies to diesel locomotives powered by diesel engines and using lead-acid batteries as the direct starting power source of the diesel engine. Diesel locomotives that use other types of batteries as direct starting power sources for diesel engines may refer to this standard. Cane locomotives used in industrial and mining applications may be implemented with reference to this standard.
