This standard provides guidance on safe entry and work in confined spaces on tankers used in the petroleum industry. This standard describes work procedures and recommendations necessary to prevent accidents, injury and illness in confined spaces. This standard is intended to assist users in developing specific procedures for working safely in confined spaces. The types of confined spaces and the hazards present may differ, but the basic principles proposed in this standard can be adopted and, with modifications, can be used in all confined spaces of oil tankers. These principles do not apply to the following situations: a) Entering a confined space in an emergency; b) Hot work in a confined space (referring to any work that may generate a temperature high enough to ignite a flammable gas mixture); c) Being Tankers deemed safe for personnel. This standard does not involve specific requirements of relevant departments. Users should refer to the corresponding regulations formulated by relevant departments for certain specific requirements.
