Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the total free alkali content in soap. This standard applies to ordinary toilet soaps and laundry soaps. It does not apply to compound soaps, nor to soaps containing additives (alkaline silicates, etc.) that will be decomposed by sulfuric acid according to prescribed procedures.
